Emily’s story
From Homelessness to Helping Others
Emily was enrolled in a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program at Stone Academy and was three quarters of the way through her program but she couldn’t keep up with her rent payments. She was juggling school work and caring for her three children.
Emily was facing eviction - should she quit school so that she could get a job but would it pay enough to keep her apartment and take care of her family? She briefly considered quitting but knew she needed to complete her school work in order to secure a better future for her family. She had come so far, she couldn’t give up. Emily found South Park Inn and didn’t miss a beat with her school work as she was determined to finish.
During her stay at South Park Inn, Emily’s family and fellow residents took turns caring for her two year old son, while her older children were in school, so that she could remain in school and study. After several months Emily received her diploma, passed her exams to become licensed and found a job that gives her satisfaction and purpose.
Today Emily is living in her own apartment and very grateful for the help she received on her journey to independence and success.
