South Glastonbury Congregational Church
The South Park Inn and the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury share deep roots with a relationship that dates back to almost the day the shelter opened its doors.
With a commitment to social justice and service to those in need that is unparalleled, volunteers from the church extended their caring arms and provided thousands of meals and much needed support to keep the women and children, men, and veterans served by South Park Inn well fed and well cared for.
These volunteers learned that people right in our community had nowhere to sleep and could not depend on steady sources of tasty and nutritious food. They knew that something had to be done to help people with no homes, no food and no hope. So they gathered ingredients, prepared fresh meals and delivered them to South Park Inn for our guests. And they collected funds to support the shelter and keep the work going so that homeless persons always have a warm, dry and safe place to stay.
It's not surprising when you visit their website and learn what matters to the members of this church:“We are a community of faith who cares about the world we live in.”
From church volunteer Donald Peterson, we learned that, “Today several members of our congregation put together 65 meals for folks at SPI. While four people put the meal packages together, another eight people actually participated in buying the ingredients and pulling this all together.
As one member said: “South Church feels it’s important as part of our mission to take care of all our neighbors - in our church, in our town, in Hartford, in the state and the entire world. May God bless you and the good work you do.”
Countless meals and donations later, everyone at South Park Inn is full of gratitude for the deep roots we share with the Congregational Church in South Glastonbury. Your generous spirit is inspiring and we look forward to continued partnership with a very special, caring group we proudly call our friends.
